Dignity Through Art Inaugural Exhibition

16/-5/2016 - 26/05/2016

The Dignity through Art Project seeks to highlight the needs of those marginalized, homeless or needy people we see in Florence;acknowledging them to be part of our lives, whatever their personal stories. In doing so, not only do we give voice to those who are silenced by their circumstances or choices, but we also honour their essential human dignity, and with it our own.

The participating artists have produced portraits showing evidence of discussion with the subject, in order to learn something of their past history, present circumstances, skills and future aspirations.

As a result, the needy will hopefully receive more understanding and publicity for their plight. They are being given a voice and their skills may be acknowledged, so that people will be encouraged to see them as fellow human beings. The charities working with them will receive support from sale of pictures and perhaps new volunteers. The artists have used their talents to help others and are receiving publicity for their work. All those involved in this project; although diversely gifted and of different nationalities and age-groups are working together for the good of others. And for those Christians involved, we are meeting Christ in those we meet.

The first exhibtion of Dignity Through Art will take place at the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo in Florence, Italy. The exhibition is organized by St. Mark's English Church, Florence, with the collaboration of the Catholic Archdiocese of Florence and the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore.
