Madison Elya

I was born in the state of Missouri, but I consider Texas as my home state. I cam eto Italy for the amazing opportunity to study abroad. My dream is to become and Art Teacher and, if possible, an artist as well, so

getting to study art, and, honestly, just to go to school in Florence is truly a blessing. I also view this opportunity (to paint a picture for DtA) as a blessing for both Sofia (subject of the painting) and myself because, through the porject Sofia has the chance to get help, to help improve her and her family's life. I have been given the opportunity to really prove my skills and be part of a truly amazing thing. So thank you, everyone - and a very special thanks to Sofia. I hope everything works out in the end for you and your family.

Sofia is from Bosnia. She begs outside La Calza or in the Piazza there on Sunday mornings.  She came to Italy five years ago, but her Italian is not all that understandable at times. She has four children, one of whom needed hospital treatment this week. Her immediate hopes are for the child to get well soon
