Sybil Smoot

On January 6, 1982, 4 months before receiving my Degree in Fine Arts from Fontbonne College, i had taken a moment to write in my diary: a list of the things I wanted to do in the future. Number 6 was: "I want to be an

artist - to paint."

The Artist Path has taken me through GRaduate School for a MA at the Univ. of Notre Dame and through eight summer painting scenery at the Muny Theatre in my hometown, St. Louis and eventually in other theaters that hosted Italian Scenic Designers. The road continued in Italy learning fresco painting and other renaissance techniques from an Italian Master and Restorer. At a Scenery Laboratory near Treviso I even learned to paint scenery with fish glue. Later, courses in architectural mural painting and finto commesso from another Italian Master preceded Courses at the Teatro della Pergola in Scenery Mechanics and Costume Design. There, I have been participating in various collective art shows, along the way and the road has led me here and now, discovering 34 years later that I still want to be an artist. Now, however, I just paint - my autobiography, dreams, portraits, from life in the country or at the sea, using the art techniques learned along the way and enjoying seeing all the Colors.
